WHAT ARE THE FINISHES?

Posted by

At Skirting Express we take great pride with the selection of finishes that we offer. As we prime and finish all of our products we choose only the best MR MDF (Moisture Resistant Medium Density Fiberboard) and Carbide Cutters which provide a very clean cut, which is perfect for finishing. Below is a detailed description of all the finishes that are available.

UNPRIMED

If you select our Unpirmed option you will be purchasing the raw product which is MDF with no primer and no finish. All of our MDF is MR Grade (Moisture Resistant) which can come in three difference forms depending on the products dimensions.

No Dye

Green Dye

Part Green Dye

All three forms of MR MDF have the exact same specifications and are specifically manufactured for Skirting Board, Architrave and Other Mouldings in the home.

If you select our Primed option you will be purchasing a pre-primed product which is ready for painting. We use a cellulose based primer which is both quick drying and allows for any paint finish (Oil based or Water based). It is essential to let the paint dry fully before applying the second coat which can take a while so we use powerful infrared lamps to speed up the process. Our priming process includes two stages which are as follows;

Stage 1: A first coat of cellulose based primer is sprayed onto the product which is then left until dry.

Stage 2: The product is then sanded down and given a final coat which is then left again until dry.

Stage 3: Finally the product goes through one more sanding process and is quality checked.

If you select our Gloss finish you will be purchasing a finished Gloss product which is ready for fitting. We apply the same three processes with the priming and then finish with a high quality water based Gloss paint. Gloss can be used in high traffic areas because it can hold up to heavy cleaning and scrubbing.

The product is primed and one thick coat of Gloss paint is applied.

Note: Extra packaging such as grease proof paper will be wrapped around the product to prevent the product from scratching.

If you select our Satin finish you will be purchasing a finished Satin product which is ready for fitting. We apply the same three processes with the priming and then finish with a high quality water based Satin paint. Our Satin finish is a durable paint with a smooth, velvety gloss texture. Satin can be used in medium/high traffic areas because it can hold up to heavy cleaning and light scrubbing.

The product is primed and one thick coat of Satin paint is applied.

Note: Extra packaging such as grease proof paper will be wrapped around the product to prevent the product from scratching.

If you select our Eggshell finish you will be purchasing a finished Eggshell product which is ready for fitting. We apply the same three processes with the priming and then finish with a high quality water based Eggshell paint. Our Eggshell finish is a durable paint with a low sheen and gloss reminiscent of an eggshell.

The product is primed and one thick coat of Eggshell paint is applied.

Note: Extra packaging such as grease proof paper will be wrapped around the product to prevent the product from scratching.
